John Maynard is the author of The Aboriginal Soccer Tribe. This book is no longer in print.

John is a Worimi man from the Port Stephens region of NSW. He is Professor of Indigenous Studies and Director of the Wollotuka Institute of Aboriginal Studies at the University of Newcastle. He is also Deputy Chairperson of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). John has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, the most recent being a three-year Australian Research Fellowship (Indigenous).
