'Young Dark Emu' wins Australian Booksellers Association - Children's Book of the Year 2020!

Tue, Jul 14, 2020

Congratulations to Bruce Pascoe - whose title Young Dark Emu has won the ABA Kids' Reading Guide Children's Book of the Year!

We couldn't be more proud! The ABA Book of Year is especially exciting as it is selected by those at the heart of our industry - booksellers across the country voted for Young Dark Emu as the kids title they most enjoyed selling in 2019.

On winning the award, Bruce said:

'I'm so proud that the booksellers of Australia have chosen Young Dark Emu as their favourite book of 2020. It has been a very hard year for our country... but I'm so grateful that booksellers can see that Young Dark Emu offers a different story, a more positive story for our country. Thank you all!'.

Of the Awards, the ABA said:

'Handselling allows us to discover new voices, stories outside our comfort zone and introduces us to unexpected favourites. Booksellers work hard all year to read the best new books across diverse genres to make sure they can recommend you a good book that will suit you perfectly.'

The ABA Book of the Year Awards are announced as part of the #LoveYourBookshop initiative. Love Your Bookshop and Love Your Bookshop Day celebrate bookshops across the country and highlight what makes local bookshops great. We encourage all readers to support their local bookshops - who are great champions of our books! More info here.
