On Saturday April 8th, Magabala Books' Board and staff were proud to launch Josie Wowolla Boyle's latest children's book, Mrs White and the Red Desert at the 2017 Revealed Aboriginal Art Market.
Comprising an art market, exhibition and artist talks, Revealed is an annual program hosted by the Fremantle Arts Centre that provides valuable public exposure for new and emerging Aboriginal artists all across WA. This year, Magabala staff sold books in the art market, joining artists and art centres from the Kimberley, Pilbara, Mid-West, Goldfields, Western Desert, Great Southern and metropolitan areas who showcased a variety of works including paintings, textiles, woven items, artefacts, ceramics and jewellery.
A selection of Broome-based illustrator, Maggie Prewett's original artwork from Mrs White and the Red Desert also featured in the exhibition, which officially launched on the April 7th and runs until May 21st.
Author, Josie Wowolla Boyle is a Wonghi woman from WA. She is an acclaimed storyteller, singer and visual artist who, for many years, has entertained people with stories from her Wongutha heritage. Her other books include include Bubbay: A Christmas Adventure and The Spotty Dotty Lady. Her new release, Mrs White and the Red Desert tells the story of a group of desert children who invite their school teacher home for dinner to show her why their homework is always so grubby.
Congratulations to Josie on another beautiful story and many thanks to our volunteers and the FAC team who helped make the launch possible.
