Applications open for Australian Indigenous Creator Scholarships!

In 2013 Magabala Books' inaugural Australian Indigenous Creator Scholarships program gave a boost to both established and emerging authors and illustrators. Six talented people were able to meet a variety of needs, from paying for mentorsip and training, to the purchase of art materials and equipment.

The scholarships are funded through private donations. Philanthropy Manager Sharon Griffiths said that Scholarships will be offered again in 2014 thanks to the generosity of our donors and champions.

Magabala's new CEO Anna Moulton was very impressed with the outcomes "the scholarships have provided crucial support to the development of both the creators and their future careers. And Magabala is beneffiting too; Spotty Dotty Lady, a recent children's picture book was illustrated by Fern Martins who used art equipment purchased as part of her Scholarship.

"It is exciting that a small independent publisher like Magabala can initiate and garner the support of the wider community for a program of national significance and we are very proud of the outcome."

The 2014 Scholarships will open from 22 April 2014 and close on Friday 13 June 2014.
