‘Bindi’ and ‘Shirley Purdie: My Story, Ngaginybe Jarragbe’ shortlisted for CBCA Book of the Year Awards

Magabala congratulates Kirli Saunders, Dub Leffler and Shirley Purdie after their books Bindi and Shirley Purdie: My Story, Ngaginybe Jarragbe were shortlisted in the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards on Tuesday 30 March 2021.

Bindi was shortlisted for the CBCA Younger Readers Award, and Shirley Purdie was shortlisted for the New Illustrator Award.

‘I’m pinching myself,’ said Kirli. ‘Thank you Magabala Books, Dub Leffler, Grace Lucas-Pennington and Jo Hunt for bringing this work to life.

Bindi was created by an all-First Nations publishing team and has also been shortlisted for an Australian Book Design Award, the Readings Children’s Book Prize and an Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA).

Shirley Purdie is a world-renowned Gija artist and Kimberley Elder. Her first children’s book is filled with her famous rich ochre paintings and tells the story of her life in both Gija and English.

The CBCA Awards will be announced on Friday 20 August 2021.
