Congratulations to Anita Heiss for the shortlisting of her junior fiction book Koori Princess in the Australia Book Industry Awards (ABIA) for Small Publisher’s Children’s Book of the Year.

Koori Princess is an insightful and humorous story of a young girl’s determination to be who she wants to be.

Interspersed with beautiful internal illustrations by Dagiman creator Samantha Campbell, Koori Princess is an engaging story for readers aged seven to 12 that offers a First Nations lens on coming of age, highlighting the power of self-confidence, imagination, and self-acceptance for young girls.

The ABIA Award winners will be announced in Sydney on Thursday 25 May.
